Extra: The Section 504 Protests
In 1977, the disability community in San Francisco held what remains the longest occupation on record of a federal building.
Their mission: passage of the regulations of Section 504 of the rehabilitation act which legally requires any federal contractor to respect the civil rights of people with disabilities.
This is a remarkable story, and it laid the foundation for the new world we live in — and the reason for taking this disability awareness training.
